Troubled Minds is a combined effort between photographers Clive Branson and Richard Desmarais to generate public awareness regarding the stigma associated with mental illness. Originally designed as a photographic exhibit, it was turned into a 3-minute video for YouTube.
The premise was to avoid photographing metaphors or using celebrities as spokespeople, but to showcase these afflictions the way the public perceive them, only to question the viewer:
Can you imagine being unplugged from reality?
It is with time, funding, and thorough research that we can understand and hopefully, cure the majority of these diseases.
Though some medical professionals oppose the video because it doesn’t display a positive light, I disagree.
It is a powerful piece that highlights the plight people, who are afflicted with these diseases, must endure and it provokes viewers to understand what these diseases mean and hopefully through that, the public will feel more inclined to support mental illness programs.
